Academic spaces continue to be shaped by exclusionary structures, where discrimination and systemic silencing make it difficult for individuals to speak out, seek support, or advocate for change. This session, Methods of Unsilencing, will examine the mechanisms that perpetuate silence and explore practical strategies for breaking through these barriers.
Drawing on real-life experiences and critical research, we will discuss approaches such as documentation, storytelling, collective action, and strategic networking. The session aims to go beyond conventional career advice, focusing instead on dismantling exclusionary practices and cultivating meaningful spaces for exchange and empowerment in academia.
Participants will leave with concrete tools to navigate institutional challenges, challenge marginalization, and foster solidarity across academic and professional communities. If you’re interested in breaking cycles of isolation and reclaiming agency in academic spaces, join us for this engaging discussion!
